Travel Reflections: 2013 Year in Review

Posted on Jun 18, 2020 in Reflections | 0 comments

Last year I postulated about what kind of traveler I am. And this year I discovered that I was absolutely, 100%, right on the money correct. Because I took a 5-star vacation – and freaking loved it.

Let’s take a step back. I blogged less in 2013 than I have since I began my literary journey and while I want so badly for it to plague me more than it does, I’m really not all that bothered. Because instead of looking at my travels through the lens of “how can I make an article out of this?” I chose the route of “let’s see where this day takes me.” After several years of planning my vacation around my blog, I did the opposite. I have tons of articles to write about the people I met and places I saw in 2013, but that will have to wait for another day. And that’s OK.

I was off and running 3 days into the new year, with a quick trip to beautiful Napa Valley, which was lush and green even while the grapevines lay dormant before the spring. Santa Barbara here, San Diego there, and I found myself at last in long-awaited September, when I would set sail on my first cruise. The elegant Regent Seven Seas’ Voyager either ruined me for all other cruise lines or won my skeptical heart over to the art of traveling by sea. I ate and drank my way through corners of Spain, climbed my way through tiny medieval hilltop villages in France, marveled at the rock of Monaco and the casinos of Monte Carlo and breathed a sigh of relief to be back in bella Roma.
